Who I am
This site is run by Callum Strong, a freelance developer based in Lancashire, UK. I'm the data controller for anything you share through it, which means I decide what's collected and what it's used for. Questions about your data go to hello@callumstrong.co.uk.
What I collect
When you send a brief
The contact form asks for your name, email address, business name, website, what you need, your timeline and a message. It's emailed to me so I can reply, and isn't stored on this site. I use it to answer you and, if we work together, to run the project. The lawful basis is legitimate interests (replying to someone who got in touch), or taking steps towards a contract when you're asking about work.
The spam check
The contact form uses Cloudflare Turnstile to tell people from bots. It checks signals from your browser, and your IP address, when you use the form. It only runs on the contact page. The lawful basis is legitimate interests: keeping the form free of spam.
Visiting the site
Cloudflare hosts the site. Like any web server, it handles your IP address, your browser details and the page you asked for, so it can deliver the page and protect the site from attacks. I don't use this to identify you.
Analytics, if you say yes
If you accept, Google Analytics records which pages you visit, how you arrived (a search, a link, or directly), roughly where you are (country and city), your device and browser, and how long you stay. Your location is worked out from your IP address, which Google doesn't store. I use this to see which pages are useful. Google's advertising features are switched off, so none of it is used for ads.
The lawful basis is your consent. Nothing loads until you accept, and you can change your mind at any time.
Cookies
Cookies are small files a site stores in your browser. This site sets none until you accept analytics. If you do, Google Analytics sets these:
| Cookie | What it's for | How long |
|---|---|---|
_ga | Tells one visitor from another, so a return visit isn't counted as a new person | 2 years |
_ga_SZ1GLCBZ4P | Keeps track of your current visit | 2 years |
Your choice is saved in your browser's local storage as cookie-consent, so the banner doesn't ask on every page. It never leaves your browser, and after a year the banner asks again. If you sign in to edit the site, the admin sets its own sign-in cookies. Visitors never get them.
To change your choice, open the cookie settings. If you switch analytics off, the Google Analytics cookies are deleted straight away.
You can also block or clear cookies in your browser's settings.
Who else sees it
A few companies handle data for me, only to provide their service:
- Resend sends the contact form's emails to my inbox.
- Cloudflare hosts the site and runs the spam check.
- Google runs Google Analytics, if you accept it.
- My email provider holds the briefs I receive and our replies.
Some of them are based in the United States, so your data may be processed there. Where it leaves the UK, it's covered by the safeguards UK law requires, such as the UK-US data bridge or standard contractual clauses. I don't sell your data, and I don't share it with anyone else unless the law requires it.
How long I keep it
Briefs and the emails that follow are kept while we're in touch. If we work together, I keep them for as long as I need them for that work and for tax and accounting records. Enquiries that don't lead to work are deleted when they're no longer needed.
Google Analytics deletes the data about your visits after 14 months at most.
Your rights
Under UK data protection law, you can ask to see the data I hold about you. You can also have it corrected or deleted, restrict or object to how I use it, and get a copy to take elsewhere. Where I rely on your consent, you can withdraw it at any time.
Email hello@callumstrong.co.uk and I'll reply within a month. If you're unhappy with how I've handled your data, you can complain to the Information Commissioner's Office at ico.org.uk. I'd appreciate the chance to put it right first.
Changes
If what this site collects changes, this page changes with it and the date at the top moves on.
